Buddha never had any thought of creating a new religion. He even strongly discouraged his portrait to be preserved for future generations. Even Mauryan Ashoka did not know the portait of buddha. After nearly 550 yrs after Buddha, samrat Kanishka(78ce) ordered Buddha scholars to create portrait of Buddha .  In Madhura archeology ,where ever you dig you will find Buddhist artifacts , not a single artifact of krishna vasudeva was found in Madhura.
